It was a few months after high school graduation, and I was working part-time at the grocery store in town and going to the nearest community college (also called The Thirteenth Grade because so many of my fellow classmates ended up there, too). Anyhow, two of my fellow WHS grads (Go Pirates!) – both female – visited me about an hour before my shift ended and asked if I wanted to go see a movie with them. I accepted, and they picked me up at my house after I'd changed clothes.
Of course, they didn't tell me where we were going or which movie. Turned out to be the dollar theater, and it was Basic Instinct. OK, back the boat up a minute.
Or rather, maybe fast forward a little. One of the girls, I'll call her Tracey because that's her name, eventually would try to convince me to join the Baptist Student Union group at school. The other girl, I'll call her Melissa (duh), may not have warmed too many pews on Sunday – in fact was sort of a bad girl in a good way – but still a little surprising. There I was, sitting next to two gals I'd gone to school with forever, watching Sharon Stone get naked every time someone sneezed. I think Michael Douglas was faking allergies just so she'd strip.
It was an awkward and yet exciting moment from my past, people. The experience may have been more awkward because there were several families at the movie – including kids – running up and down the aisles during the murder/sex scenes. I can tell you that (not surprisingly) because both girls were my good friends that I had at one time had serious man-teen crushes on both of them. The reason I call Melissa a "bad girl" is that the one time I skipped school senior year, it was with her at her suggestion. Such a bad influence, yet such a babe. We also McWorked together a few years before. Hard to believe it's been 15 years.
Wondering why neither one has called me to see Basic Instinct 2. Sure, the movie has been panned like an egg at Denny's, but it would seem like old times again. At least for a few really strange, awkward hours.

Y'all should get together for B.I. 2 - like old times. Pre-prepare clever quips.
Taking two girls out on a date at the same time? What a stud.
I watched the original with my bf(later to be hubby) in college. I remember going home one weekend and my dad rented it for the whole fam to watch. Uh, I don't think so. So, I sat awkwardly in the same room as my parents and my bf watching the movie again. No amount of counselling will get me past that experience.
Thanks for the story, T-bone. It's hard to believe it's been THAT long! Maybe they'll call...:)
