Spring cleaning in the digital age

| | Comments (10)

I'm writing this post after having cleared off my desktop – on the computer, that is – having burned a couple of years of digital photos onto CDs, allowing me to trash trash trash them. I have also jettisoned some of the hundreds of songs in my iTunes library that no longer let me get, uh, jiggy wit it (that should tell you just how old some of those songs were).

Put your nose right up to your computer screen and take a big whiff. Smell that? My iMac smells like a field of daisies bowing in the gentle spring breeze. Soon, I am going to root through the hard drive to see if there are any worthless programs I can delete as well. And my e-mail? Its inbox is going to have the clean, crisp scent of pine.

I also deleted my original Blogger blog, to which I had not posted but once or twice since moving over here a few years ago. Every time a lifeless blog carcass is obiterated, an angel gets its wings. Ding!

All this work and heavy lifting, however, didn't do a thing for my computer desk's top. Or the hall closet. Or the kitchen "junk" drawer. Or that shelf in the bedroom closet that is the Leaning Tower of Unworn Garments. Or the fact our simulated Christmas tree is still in the garage, only half-boxed. I could go on, but it's making me tired. The real Spring Cleaning at Casa del T-bone is yet to begin. But it's got to happen! The clutter is eating up precious memory space in my brain (like, where's my car keys?).

How about you ... got any plans for a seasonal cleanout at your abode?

Hahahaha, I love what you said about the lifeless blog carcass and the angel's getting its wings.

I need to clean as well. My apt is overflowing with extraneous things I don't need - clothes, books, crap. Time to make a donation trip to the Salvation Army!

I saw the magic word, iMAC in your post. I'm planning on getting an iMAC for my next computer - as soon as this pc I'm working on gets on my nerves.

Any suggestions? I guess I'll have a bit of learning to do. I used to work on a MacIntosh years ago at work, so I understand that it's easier than a pc, but I'm sure it's very different now.

Always have to spring clean!! It feels so rewarding! We cleaned out the Closets of Death a month or so ago, and even the junk drawers were sorted through. I still have a stack of papers to be filed, but beyond that it's actual CLEANING that has to get done - you know, rain goobers in the window sills, bird poop all over the deck, and stairs that haven't seen the shampooer in months. Yep, then it'll officially be SPRING!!

I didn't have a spring cleaning plan before reading this but now I'm completely inspired.

Ah, yes. Every weekend Chez Skittermagoo seems to be devoted lately to some aspect of spring cleaning. This weekend, since it seems like it's going to be dry, will be mainly spent outside doing yard stuff. And maybe the garage.

I intend to drag the Christmas tree carcass from the backyard, where I jettisoned it out the door on New Year's Day, to the burn pile. Which I can't burn because, you know. Burn ban.

We just finished putting up closet organizers in our bedroom closets. We did the kids' one weekend and ours the next. It gave us the chance to go through old clothes that either don't fit anymore (thankfully, a lot of mine were too big from finally losing all my baby weight) or hopelessly out of style. We now have two giant black garbage bags sitting in the hall waiting for the trip to Goodwill.

Wow. I burn my pics to CD every time I download them from my camera because I could not stand to lose a single one! You are lucky that in two years nothing happened.

Funny you should mention spring cleaning. We are in the process of going through EVERYTHING we own and evaluating it's future potential. The yard sale pile has taken over our living room. Had it not been for the fact that we are buying a house now, this massive household weight reduction plan would not have happened until around this time next year. If we haven't used it in the 3 years since we moved in here, then we probably don't need it at the new house, either. Of course, there are a few exceptions... Like my lawnmower. :-)

Oh boy! I love spring cleaning.

I moved a few weeks ago so I consider that spring cleaning enough for this year, considering that I threw out/gave away approximately 1/3 of my and my husband's belongings.

Cleaning is SO rewarding! Way to go T-bone!
