I saw this dog on the drive to work this morning, and boy was he having a good time. Though a little dangerous to be hanging out the window at 45-50 mph, I guess in his mind (and his owner's) the wind-in-the-hair, ear-flapping good times it produced was more than worth it. We can learn a lot from dogs, although not all of it may be good.
The positive lessons include:
• Showing unconditional love to those dear to us.
• Not worrying so much about our appearance, or how we smell.
• Being legitimately sorry when we've done something wrong.
• Living life open to new adventures.
• Not worrying so much about tomorrow.
• Not being afraid to bark if things aren't quite right.
• Not being afraid to bark if things are perfect.
• Running as fast as we can at least a few times a week.
• Letting it all hang out once in a while.
• Being ready to play at a moment's notice.
• Being wary of strangers, but open to meeting new people.
• Hanging out the window and soaking up the sunshine.
• Catching Frisbees® with your teeth is fun.
• The water in the toilet starts out fresh and is nice and cool when you're really really thirsty.
• Kids are special and deserve attention.
• Instead of having a bone to pick, chew on it for awhile.
• The neighbor's cat is an evil secret agent sent to spread cat poop throughout the world. She must be stopped!
• Road trips are awesome!
• Relieving yourself outside is a strangely freeing experience.
• Taking a walk is one of the best parts of any day.
There are negative dog behaviors that particularly some of us (mostly attributed to men) have adopted. Those include passing gas without remorse, lifting our legs at inopportune times and – sometimes – humping anything within reach. Also, like infants, we might be willing to put anything in our mouths, at least once, but that's an entirely different story for some other, distant time.
A healthy, happy dog's life is just a big, uninterupted weekend. I hope you can enjoy the next couple of days with at least some of the same abandone. Got any great plans?

Ah, to be a dog. Sounds pretty good.
So true, T! You have an interesting spin on everything.
I would never let my dog hang out a window like that...makes me nervous every time I see that!
I had plenty of plans this wknd. But now that I've read this I think I'll spend it peeing on my neighbours lawn.
That is a great post! Ahh... to be a dog :)
Yay! That post makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This weekend I will definitely spend some quality time at the park frisbee throwing and running around barking. Thanks.
A Dog's Life...sign me up! But I was brought back to reality when my wife said, "Get off of my leg"!
Dog gone-it! :) I love those lessons!
My doggies and I took a ride in the jeep with the top down on Saturday and I swear they were both smiling!
Ahh... what a nice couple posts! Your kid and a dog! Just wanted to say I just wandered here through a series of links and my heart was warmed, (and I miss my dog now. Thanks, a lot.)
