No cause for alarm

| | Comments (9)

I rarely am awakened by the alarm clock because usually I'm already awake. Not necessarily because of insomnia; no, I sleep just fine but wake just a few minutes before the ringing begins. My "internal" alarm clock just knows when it's time to get up, and for me, that means the pain of never really being able to "sleep in." I've had this problem ever since spending the night at friends' houses when I was much younger. I'd be the kid talking to the mom while she makes pancakes. The syndrome was more painful in college, whereupon I could be stopped by no hangover (except for The Night of The Yoo Hoo Russian, discussed here some time ago. That was bad. One of two times I felt ready to die). Now my life has changed, but my internal clock still ticks to the rhythm of life.

There are also, of course, external signals not related to the ticking of the clock. I can tell what time it is by:

• The amount of daylight poking through the window shade (which, even worse, faces east toward the sunrise).
• The sound of traffic on the road behind my house. Things pick up about 6 a.m. and get kind of hairy by 6:30.
• If and how much I have to pee (an internal signal, but whatever)
• How much the dog is rolling around on the floor.
• The slamming of a neighbor's car door before he trudges off to work.
• A wife who at times feels a little frisky in the morning (no complaints there).

And parents will be able to relate to this ...

The Cutlet generally will wake up and come into our bedroom. This morning was a good one – he was in a friendly, snuggly mood. There are times if he's having a tummy ache or didn't get enough shuteye that he starts whacking us with tiny fists and feet of fury. We knew the biggest issue with his "big boy bed" would be his ability to leave it. Lately, we wouldn't trade that ability for the world. Much better than coffee.

What's your favorite way to wake up?

There isn't a favorite way to wake up, YUK! But every morning that hubby isn't traveling I get woken up by him and a fresh cup of java made just the way I like it and light kisses on my forehead as he heads to work.

I'm like you with the internal clock. But every once in a while, I outsleep my husband and he'll wake me up with a back rub...very nice.

The sound of Spongebob on the TV in our room signals the kids are up getting ready for school and I should be dragging my butt up too.

Definitely those early morning, half-asleep cuddles. Don't think I could get through the day without them.

All you couples suck!

haha.

My favorite way to wake up in the morning as a "single person" (damn you all) is very well rested, with the soft hum of the furnace kicking in and reaching behind me to open the window. Laying there with the sun coming through the blinds and the clean air on my face.

Then snuggling back under the warm covers.

:)

If I have to get woken up bright and early, there's no better way than the smiling face of my precious daughter(cutlet, by the way is so adorable!). But I do wish sometimes she'd realize that it's the weekend and that she can sleep later than 7 a.m.

I usually awake early as well, but on the weekends it is nice to make a pee pee run, come back to warm covers and sleep until I want to get up.
Cute Cutlet photo!

Hmmm...I have two favorite ways...totally favorites for different reasons....the first one is the same as your wifes....Nothing better than being awaken with some "frisky business"

Number two...with my girls jumping in bed saying "get up, it's morning time" :)

I hate being the first one up...which I frequently am....which I guess that's why I'm not much of a morning person.

Well, being underway on a navy ship, there's no favorite way of waking up. But when I'm home, the best is the "Frisky Business" but that's few and far between because of the 3 daughters that occasionally have a disagreement WAY too early on weekend mornings or when our 4 year old feels lonely when she wakes up and wants to come to mommy's bed to snuggle. But that's not too bad, either.
