If Plato or Socrates had ever mowed a lawn, I bet the time spent doing it would be their most contemplative. It doesn't take a lot of brain power, and the activity is perfect for letting the mind wander. My "philosophical" questions ranged from leftovertures from the recent politic arena to rather dumb questions such as, "What color are emotions?"
Color itself is subjective. The colors we attach to emotions – if we are even of a visual mind to do so – are probably just as varied. Here's my examples:
• Love is red.
Not crimson or burgundy; more of the fire-engine variety. Love is hot. Vital. Blood-pumping through excited veins. Hearts are often drawn by children as red. Though anger can also make us see red, love is one of the few things worth getting angry about.
• Pain is blue.
It's a navy blue, not the color of the sky on a sunny day. There are menacing clouds in the sky when we experience pain.
• Hate is purple.
Some say it's the opposite emotion of love, with the same intensity only in the other direction. It can be a mix of love and pain – hence the hue created by combining red and blue. To hate we have to know how to love. Hate is never good; like a bruise, it must have time to heal.
• Fear is yellow.
Not sure why, just seems right.
• Boredom is white.
In the world of refracted light, white is all the colors combined. Still, without a particular emotion to guide us, white is empty – like an unpainted canvas or sheet of paper right out of the box.
• Confusion is black.
Black is the absence of color in the art world.
• Friendship is orange.
Just a warm, comfortable color to have around. It brightens our day, and if we can overcome our fears, sometimes it can turn into love.
• Pleasure is green.
Unless you are out mowing the lawn – in November for goodness sake. It was 80 degrees yesterday. Color me confused on that one.
What's your favorite color, and why?

Hmmm:
Love = white
Hate = black
Fear and pain = red
Friendship = green
Pleasure = blue
Confusion = orange
Happy and simple = yellow
Just my take on it.
Favorite color changes with the wind. Today it is deep rich jewel red, like a ruby. And yes, I am in love, so maybe love = red? Good grief. I suspect the color/emotion thing is over-determined.
Hmm..that's a hard one. I like burgundy, as well as all shades of blue - dark, navy, midnight, and baby.
I once heard that yellow is the favorite color of insane people.
I have never really had a favorite color. Well, black was it for a little while. But now, I just don't like orange. The rest of them are good.
I tend to fluctuate on my color favorites. I have "periods" in which I will gravitate to one color or another. For five years I was in an obsessive blue mode (witness my cobalt blue dishes, glasses, and a major character I wrote about was blue). I have now shifted into a green mode (see my blog). Green is everywhere in my house, but my most important green thing is a little card my doctor (that diagnosed me with Lupus) gave me; it's green and has the word HOPE on it.
Bright yellow I have never liked, but shades of it can be nice.
Very interesting article.
Black is my safe color. It can also be sexy.
Red is my happy, zesty, sexy all the time color.
Blue is comfortable. (flannel pj's)
And I like grey, for those inbetween times.
