Playground, pancakes and Ross Perot

As you can see, the Cutlet really loves his "new" backyard playground set. Our neighbors – who have a 15-year-old daughter – gave it to us (it was built by the people who lived there before them). It needs a lot of work, but thankfully, my father-in-law was willing, able and bored enough to get the project jump-started. Now it just needs a coat of wood sealer and a double swing for the grown-ups.

On Monday, as the in-laws were headed out of town, we went out for breakfast. I think breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out, and the Petite Filet's too. She had wanted to go out for breakfast for weeks, but our schedules don't make that easy. We've always got to be UP! OUT! too early to have a relaxing meal at a family cafe or infamous "international" breakfast chain. I am proud to report that the Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity (blueberry, scrambled eggs) was just as delicious sober and with family as it was drunk and with friends many years ago.

The Sunday before, a new elementary school was dedicated in the school district for which the PF works. She helped plan the whole thing, and it seemed to go off without a hitch. What makes this school unique is the fact that it's Bette Perot Elementary, named for the sister of successful businessman and former U.S. Presidential candidate Ross Perot. The entire Perot clan showed up, too: Ross Sr. and his wife, their six children (Ross Jr. and his five sisters), their children's children, and honoree Bette Perot. I was there to cover the event photographically, while a reporter from the paper wrote the story. It was neat, and crazy. They're people like everybody else, but they are famous and wealthy and powerful people. It was good to know – I saw it firsthand – that Ross Perot Sr. likes cookies.

I was also reminded that being a powerful, eloquent and poised public speaker can spell success. Everybody should refine those skills; you never know when you need to be heard. In the information age with sound bites and info nibbles, the well spoken are the ones who are heard above the din of the babbling crowds.

What's going on in your world?

What's going on in my world? Chaos, pillaging, freaks and geeks stopping by to sell cookies, new neighbors butting in with pies and cakes and other kinds of political correct shite, a screaming 3 month old who cannot get over the fact that mommy has to work while daddy takes care of her, trying to meet writing deadlines in the middle of the night, trying to finish the 1st draft of a novel, headaches, nicotine cravings, and lastly...insomnia.

Good 'nuff for you?

the usual baseball, cub scouts, movie watching, work stuff, 30 minute workout, occasional guitar playing, getting over a bad cold kinda things.

Insanity at work, mean partners, a leaking ceiling, menstrual cramps, insomnia, toothache, and general malaise.

Yeay! Grownup swings! By the way, the cutlet is way too cute. I think I'm gonna have to eat him.
