Dinner with Cutlet

| | Comments (12)

Feeding a little one is always a hoot. In the beginning, our kiddo ate nothing but breast milk – which of course meant I got to see a lot of my wife's hooters. Then, he graduated to a mix of breast milk and formula, eventually more or less "solid" foods. Now, he drinks whole cow's milk and sometimes even eats the same things we do.

Now, hurtling toward 17 months old, our little dude is using a fork. He actually stabs the food and puts it in his mouth all by himself. Sure, that may not sound amazing, but it's just one of the new things he picks up every day. Take a look ...

He looks awful proud of himself, doesn't he?

Other things the Cutlet does:
• We ask him if he needs a new diaper, and if he does, he runs to his room (the regular changing place).
• If he hears the word "Go" he heads toward the door.
• If he gets hungry, he tugs on the refrigerator door (this is not necessarily a good thing).
• He loves water. The Petite Filet is already taking him to swim lessons.
• He is talking a lot, but only some words in a language we can understand.
• When he's doing something he shouldn't do, we tell him no and he starts to shake his head from side to side. In the beginning, this made us laugh (depending on the infraction).
• He is snuggly and loving, and always happy to see me when I get home.

Yeah, so I'm a really proud papa. How could I not? I just can't understand the people who don't love, hug, squeeze and lavish affection onto and discipline their own offspring. Much less do I understand parents who intentionally harm their kids. We as a planet will face judgment on how we treat our most vulnerable. Treating them as we are supposed to today means tomorrow's children have a better chance at the same life.

he's soooo cute!!! ;)

amen! i get so angry at parents. i have seen some things that would curl your toes. during my last two weeks...there was a little girl who was taken out of the home (who is mentally retarded) because she was sexually abused, beaten, and burned by her parents. she is the sweetest...most soft spoken girl. it was going on for many months...possibly years...but they left bruises and burns under clothes. she didn't have the ability to tell people what was going on either. it gave me nightmares...made me want to do bodily harm. it is so wonderful to see parents who take such pride in their kiddos...and give them so much love. not every child gets that...truly tragic.

As always, he is a doll! Possibly the second cutest baby I've seen ;)

I'm getting a tooth ache just looking at him.

Kids take a part of your heart and keep it forever. The feelings of protectiveness can be overwhelming and were a big surprise to me after my first.

He's quite possibly the cutest child ever...

OK, quick question... the first time you gave him a hot dog cut into those disc like pieces, didn't you freak out? Don't you still freak out at round things that look as if they're total choking size?????/

He's getting SO big! (and more adorable)

I'm going to see my 2 1/2 month old nephew tomorrow...he is going to be barraged with kisses and hugs!

Have a good weekend!

What a cutie!!

Wow, what a cutie! And what an adorable t-shirt.

Wonderful post.

What a handsome little cutlet you've bred! I know that he will continue to make you proud. :D

A couple of those things sounded like you have a dog. ;)

But seriously, excellent post. Children are amazing. And yours is getting so big! Where does the time go?

What a cutie - he is adorable, very photogenic!
