Oh T-Bone, Where Art Thou?

| | Comments (7)

I'm no longer a man of constant blogging, if that's what you mean. But because you asked (or I knew you were going to), I'll let you in on what I've been doing the past week:

1. I created The Paradise Island Diet.
I saw that the key to financial success these days is making up some trendy meal plan and naming it something exotic. Paradise Island is adjacent to Nassau, The Bahamas. To follow the plan, you must eat conch fritters four times a day, followed by plenty of pina coladas. And then go snorkling. Side cramps will keep you from getting hungry!

2. Built a scale model of the Statue of Liberty using popsicle sticks.
The rub is that I had to eat all the popsicles before I could build the 5-foot-tall statue. I've got brain freeze, a blue tongue and have had to pee a lot. That's kept me from blogging as much.

3. The Political Season is upon me.
I voted early, thanks, but my work is only beginning. As editor of a small newspaper, I've got to care at least a little about the elections going on around me. All politics is local, and around here, people care more about who's on the school board than who is in the White House. I'll work my normal week (Tuesday-Saturday), then have to work Saturday night to get the election returns in our weekly paper for next week. Plus, we've got a friend running for City Council in our town. *big sigh*

4. Vacation Planning.
We're taking a little weekend jaunt to San Antonio, where pie eaters cry for their ice cream ("Remember the a la mode!"). And there's Sea World for the Cutlet. Just planning the trip is making me more relaxed.

5. I'm the Rodney Dangerfield of Bob Vilas.
I mention home renovation often because it's unavoidable at home. I've got a million projects going on, the biggest being the renovation of our master bathroom. This would have been done years ago if we'd only been smart and hired someone else to do it. We've encountered more obstacles last week, which makes me wish Home Depot sold Rogaine™ so I could get back some of the hair I've pulled out in the process. Stay tuned, the bumpy ride ain't over.

6. I've Been Dreaming of a White Christmas.
Yeah, right.

7. I've been watching season and series finales on TV.
Friends should have ended four years ago, but I watched the last half of the final episode. Not too bad, not too good: pretty much sums up the entire show. Jennifer Anniston=hot (and the most talented actress on the show). I also watched the three-hour Survivor ending and was glad Boston Rob didn't win, although I guess he did because he asked the winner to marry him. Rupert=hot (and sweaty). If you're a Survivor fan, don't forget to vote for the All-Star you want to see get the other million bucks. As for Frasier, I thought that show ended two years ago.

8. I've been earning a Black Belt in Carb Eating.
When not conforming to The Paradise Island Diet (you try to find decent conch fritters in Fort Worth), I've been practicing for the World Championship Potato Eating Contest in Boise, Idaho. This spud's for you! I also now have enough energy to run in place during my entire workday. I'm wearing out my shoes and the carpet, though.

9. I visited relatives.
Last Saturday, we visited my parents to celebrate Mothers Day. I also visited my grandmother in her assisted-living facility, and we took a group photo. She is in good health, but her Alzheimer's symptoms continue. It's hard to believe the vibrant old bird I grew up knowing has become what she is today. It's really hard to watch.

10. Built a thousand kayaks.
In my mind, at least. Maybe at least one of them will float.

Happy week, all.

Sorry to hear about your gran. My grandfather had that disease. It came to the point when I was the only person he would recognise, not his wife or two daughters. Wish we had had assisted-living facility for him - I guess your healtcare is better than ours in some areas.

Hey that new diet sounds exciting! I think I'll give it a try.

Glad to hear about your vacation. It's nice to hear that they still exist. Where can I find one?

Black belt of the carbs eh? I'm trying so hard to not allow my hands to become lethal weapons, but they are just so fast ya know - before I know it there is a cupcake in one and a cookie in the other. Is there help for us "masters" ?

glad to know you're up to your usual brand of hijinks!

Wow - what a busy week. I thought it was a lot and THEN got to the kayaks.

Try to have a nice week anyway.

Well thank goodness you've been busy. I've been a neglectful commenter of late. So many blogs and only so many hours to the day. *sigh*
