Forty years ago today, The Beatles stormed America's shores to lead the British music invasion. But this is no Declaration of Independence from that event; some of their music remains relevant (if it ever was) today.
I was a few years shy of missing the boat. In fact, I wasn't born until three years after the famous band called it splits (not quits, because all four of them later launched solo careers or other musical collaborations, for better or much worse).
Music originally created by The Beatles has been used in movies, commercials, Trivial Pursuit questions and in myriad other ways. In the ever-morphing world of marketing, their creations have been repackaged, remixed, resung, reloaded, rewhatever, to create something "new." There have been several box sets, previously unreleased tracks, calendars for the vintage set, semi-reunion events where the then-surviving Fab 3 performed some of their old music (after a years-long hiatus).
If The Beatles were coming ashore today, I wonder what they'd be singing ...
1. I Want To Hold Your &^%$#$%
2. Baby You Can Drive My Hoopty
3. Hey Jude (You're Going Down)
4. Norwegian Laminated Plastic
5. Help! (Get My Gun, Yo)
6. Yellow Submarine (virtually unchanged)
7. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Posse
8. When I'm 64 (Will you put me in assisted living?)
9. You'd Better Gimme Your Money
10. Nine Days A Week
And so many more! What's your favorite Beatles song (real or imagined)? Or why do you hate them so?

Yesterday - Awesome song!!
Happy Monday!
Dew
I was 3 when the Beatles hit land fall and I never really listened to them and neither did my parents. They were Elvis fans. For me, the British invasion is Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. I don't particularly care for the Stones. I guess I like my music heavy and distorted.
Norwegian Laminated Plastic? hee hee
yeah. british music (i shall say no more)
Either Imagine or Yesterday. Both really beautiful songs.
I was a junior in high school in '64. Good times! I wasn't an immediate fan but quickly became one. I still have albums--LPs not CDs--and couldn't begin to pick one favorite song. Anybody like "Paperback Writer"?
Picking a favorite Beatles Tune? Impossible. Blackbird, Eleanor Rigby, In My Life, Octopus's Garden, When I'm Sixty-Four, Rocky Raccoon.......Late at night in bed, Kman and I take turns singing a Beatles tune -trying to see who can come up with just one more. Takes us a while!
not a big fan...don't hate 'em either...but dang, I did love your list!
Too many to pick from, I still dig the Beatles. Born in '64, it's funny that I was the biggest fan when I was in High School (born too late). A friend of mine got me Paul's autograph.
"Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my book?
It took me years to write, will you take a look?"
-Thanks Emil, that will be on my mind the balance of the day, hehe.
I have to go with Kim on this one. I guess since I was born in '75, I never did become a huge Beatles fan. I don't dislike them, I just don't own any albums.
I love your list though! Very finny!
My favorite Beatles song...by far..
Here Comes The Sun
It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside and reminds me of the days where I used to hold my Dad's hand everywhere we went, cars seemed to move slower and McDonalds was a "treat"..you know, the good ole days
:)
Such good comments about one of the original "boy bands." I have a feeling nobody will care (or notice) when The Backstreet Boys have their 40th reunion tour.
An "updated" song I should have mentioned, and one that applies to many of us: Paperback Writer becoming Internet Writer. Oh yeah!
