I had a great Thanksgiving with my parents. It was just like the good ol’ days, pre-1978, when I was an only child and life was simpler. I missed the Petite Filet and Cutlet, but it was a good miss ... sometimes it’s best to have a few days apart to appreciate more what one has. I am reminded again that I have a lot.
No pizza or barbecue this time! The food hovered around traditional, even: cornish game hens browned to perfection on a rotisserie almost as old as I am; sweet potato casserole with chunky cranberry topping; cornbread dressing; gingerbread and lemon meringue pie (one of my favorites) for dessert.
The fare the Petite Filet enjoyed at her parents’ house was typically traditional, with turkey and the assorted trappings. The Cutlet was apparently one of the stars of the show, unleashing his charm on unexpecting extended family. He even started running, despite only recently becoming adept at the slower mode of two-legged travel.
My sister and her family came over for dessert. The time with them was pleasant, too. They’re heading out of town this morning to see some of her husband’s extended family. My nephew enjoys the attention he gets down there, showered on him because he’s the lone “normal” child among a circus of freaks.
Driving over toward Dallas yesterday, I was appalled at how many businesses were open along the route. I think we have ruined our Thanksgiving here in America by forgetting it’s people, not profits, that are our most special commodity. My company is the same way: it is policy for me to work on Friday, even though it won’t be in one of our stores. Profits! Profits! Profits! It was the only reason I did not travel to Oklahoma as well. My days there are numbered!
Today’s lesson, as exemplified by the picture: never be afraid to look silly with people you love.
Have a great day today. If you’re at work like me, we’ve got a weekend right around the corner. If you’re surrounded by people you love, by all means! Get off the computer and give them all hugs. That is what this holiday is about. Remember?

i thought it was cold down your way -and there you are wearing shorts. no wonder you feel cold. you should put a jumper on or something !
Sorry you have to work this Friday. Something tells me it might not be that rough, however. You probably got a great parking space?
Cool Tex kid. Don't tell him what happened at Texas Stadium yesterday. I'm sure one of the 80 million viewers will spill the beans. Good grief. Nothing like national humiliation. Way to go Cowboys.
That kids is so cute. I know I say it all the time, but damn. Get me a spoon, I want to eat him up.
:)
Sorry you're at work but glad you had a great Thanksgiving. And ditto everyone else regarding the cure Cutlet photo....it's must be a beautiful thing to have that precious little boy look at you so adoringly.
