Just Chillin'

Those of you who've been facing cold air for the past few months will have little sympathy for us Texans. We got our first freeze of the season last night/this morning, and it was shocking. Especially compared to the breezey 80-degree Saturday this weekend.

Thanks to all the well-wishers. My little appointment Friday night (mentioned in the post below) went very well. I should hear something early this week. If it's good news, I'll spill all the beans in this very spot.

Today, my current job will keep me buried beneath the onslaught of Thanksgiving advertising. I don't like how retail companies use every holiday to draw out open wallets, but it's job security while I'm here so I won't complain too much about it.

In other news, the Petite Filet and Cutlet will board a plane tomorrow morning to visit grandma and grandpa's house. Because of my job and its bizarre* rules, I've got to work Friday and can't join them. I'll be spending part of Thanksgiving Day at my parents' house near Dallas, though, so it's not a total loss. But it will be just me and the dog for most of the week until Sunday morning. I have a lot to be thankful for, but spending a family holiday apart from my family isn't one of them.

Happy Monday, folks. I won't be around the blogisphere much today, but I'll make up for it this week when I get lonely in the evenings. That should be pretty often, I imagine.

What are you doing in observance of Thanksgiving?

*bizarre=evil.

Bummer about Thanksgiving! My husband's company MAKES them take vacation time on Friday. That is so wrong!!

Oh, and...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I tell you what, I walk to work every morning, and this morning I was more like speed walking. If it wern't for the long johns I was---am wearing, I might have actually been a little colder. 'Course, I should be used to it by now. My office is always freezing below something. The funny part is the the equipment that this temp. is supposed to keep cool is on the other side of the building, but this side keeps my room temperature drinks and refrigerator temps. Ha!

Thanksgiving has to have a time to watch the Macy's parade. Something I HAFTA do every year. Long after I was married and out of the house, my dad would call me early to remind me to watch the parade. He died in 2000 and I have missed his call ever since.

Will have some of my family over, then meet up with others later. Imagine FOOTBALL will be on at least one TV - probably the one out on the patio where K man will be smokin one of our two turkeys. Ain't it America, when you have two kinds of turkey? And Ain't it America when you have a TV in every friggin room in the house? Lordy, when did we get so 1984?

Have a good T-day, T-Bone. T can be for turkey too!

I live in Iceland, therefore I have no sympathy for you Texans and I don't do Thanksgiving...

That's a real bummer that you have to work on Friday, T-bone. And that the Pettie Filet and the Cutlet have to leave you behind. No chance of making the grandparents come to visit your little family?

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. There's pretty much no way to commercialize it too much, and it's all about spending time with loved ones.

This year I'm watching the Macy's parade live! It's total gross commercialism, but the balloons are pur-ty.

I'm sticking around DC too - planning to celebrate the holiday with friends.

Why schedule a national holiday on a THURSDAY if you don't include Friday off in the deal? I know a lot of people who are working the Friday (my comp. swaps Veteran's Day for the Friday after Thanksgiving so everyone enjoys a four-day holiday).

I hope you hear good news and end up with a brand new job! :)

I'm glad the chilly weather is finally here, though it's still supposed to be in the 60's throughout this week.

As for T-Day, I think we're going to be celebrating at my mother-in-law's house on Friday. Thursday, we may try to make it to my Dad's place...Overeating will be the theme for the day.

Yes, missing Thanksgiving with the wife and child...does stink.

However, what I wouldn't give for a few days alone in my house!!!!

Try to enjoy it....and I hope you get good news very soon!

I'm about 1500 miles from family this year. I'm having Thanksgiving dinner with friends and then phoning my family when I get home. It'll be a bit lonely, I guess. But it's only the beginning. I'm sure Christmas will be even worse. :D

Well, that's too bad about Thanksgiving, but I guess house to yourself isn't all bad.

Best of luck on the *new job*. We'll all be happy for you! (Out here in blogland!)

Since I UNinvited Ethan's parents for Thanksgiving this year, we will be spending the day cooking and eating with a good friend and enjoying the lack of drama that has been the main course in years past. And for that I am truly thankful.

*crosses fingers for you about the job*

is there anything else happening on Thanksgiving besides the COWBOY game???

I too have to work the day after Turkey Day. My work have the same evil rule. BUT, I have a 3 1/2 hour drive FROM work on Wednesday and 3 1/2 hour drive TO work on Friday so I can spend Thanksgiving with my family who lives...you guessed it....3 1/2 hours away. But at least I get to be with them and that's all that matters. So I'll make the sacrifise.

I hate to hear about your Thanksgiving, however, if you feel too lonely Speedbump will be spending the football game alone babysitting as I go to see Toby Keith and the Cowboys ~ I'm only going for the views with Toby Keith but the friend I'm going with is a die hard Cowboy fan ~ feel free to head on over and enjoy a beer and football time with hubby if you'd like.

Yeah, I sure loved Houston weather this morning baby. Crisp!

Hope you hear the news you want to hear re: your Friday night *appointment*.

We'll (some of us?) will be around during the week to cheer you up in PF and Cutlet absence. Sorry that you'll be without your sweeties...

Let's see...
T-day this year will be strange, but great. Small crowd (of TWO!) this year, but I'll be cooking as if there's 10 of us. (Leftovers ROCK!)

Sorry that you have to work on Friday! My company finally wised up and decided to declare Friday as a holiday! WhooooHOOOOO!

Feel free to blog away -- some of us (?) will be around...

:) Happy Thanksgiving!

Having dinner with my divorced grandparents, mom going through mental-pause, just retired and very bored father, brother who knows more than everyone because he's a junior in college, and brother who doesn't want to be there because he's a senior in high-school, and he has better places to be. Oh, and my husband, who must really love me to put up with all of it.
