Hey, I don’t mind the colder weather so much. Change can be good, and it’s about time we Texans felt the icy fingers of Winter’s cold-blooded cousin Autumn on our bare skin.
However, there are some things I don’t like about cooler temperatures:
1. It’s harder to sneak out of the office early if you’re wearing or carrying your coat.
2. The geniuses who designed and built our house 40 years ago decided to put the hot water heater in the garage as far as possible from our bathrooms. It doesn’t work as well in a cold garage, and it takes forever for the hot water to get to us for our showers. Brrrrrr.
3. The squirrels in our back yard are going completely crazy, making unwise investments in the stock market, hurling insults at us and taunting our dog. They’re nuts, I tell you!
4. Trying to thwart the evils of our society’s increasingly commercialized views of Thanksgiving and Christmas is a struggle. It’s not about buying gifts, people!
5. I get itchy.
And there are some things I love about the colder weather:
1. Bulkier clothing means I can carry around two 5-pound pot roasts under each arm without being detected. Bulkier clothing also means I can hide my enlarged stomach after eating 10 pounds of pot roast.
2. Our electricity bill will drop well below $100 per month from a dog-days high of nearly $200.
3. The holiday season is one of my favorite times. Last year I had a pregnant wife about to explode, so with the little trooper now on the outside, we are going to have a much better couple of months. Not necessarily saner, but better.
4. People who have no business wearing shorts are thankfully turning to the “layered look” for wardrobe inspiration.
5. Funny hats suddenly go back into fashion. And so does hot chocolate!
Have a wonderful weekend! Stay cool or stay warm, depending on your preference and meteorological reality.

It is harder to sneek outta work... that sucks! It is sooooooo cold here today! 21 deg. 16 with the windchill!
have a happy friday!

when i was a kid...boy did i hate the winter...never could have as much fun in the winter...but as i grow older...i start to enjoy it. the coat thing IS a pain in the arse...i hate that. it is sooo much easier to slide out when you aren't puffed out in a coat. good point.
i really would love to squeeze your son!
Coldness descended on us yesterday with no warning. It was freezing when I woke up this morning! (Not literally - but 48 is pretty cold for Louisiana in early November!) I love cold weather - but I prefer warm, I must say.
A nice in-between temperature is what feels the best!
I live for this weather. We wait even longer for it in H-Town than Ft. Worth. As for sneaking out of work tactics, your ingenuity should get you around that little obstacle.
I've decided I need a coat that perfectly matches the walls, and pants and shoes that blend into the carpet. Then I could be "invisible" on my way out. (Like I EVER get to leave early).
why does your electricity bill go down in the winter ? do you have aircon or something ?
Luxury. in my day you had to keep cool was a fan made out of a piece of paper that you could wave it in front of your face whilst working in the kiln cooking kitsch oven ware whilst wearing 10 warm coats because that's what your parents told us to do.
and that was in the evenings. in the day they'd send us out to work down the pit and up a chimney.
modern england is nowhere near as modern as modern america. probably.
I guess it's all relative, but I don't know how cold it can really be in Texas. According to my mother (who recently relocated there) there aren't even any COAT CLOSETS because you so rarely need them.
Sweet mother of mercy, no coat closet? I just can't fathom the joy of that omission in a home!
I'm in Texas and I find it interesting that some people here bundle up for 50 degree weather and others wear shorts no matter what. Sadly, it never gets truly cold and real snow is just a dream. No real winter, but a hell of a summer.
The cutlet's habadasher must have watched reruns of Johnny Carson. Remember the sketch he would do of a Northeastern lumberjack ( or some kinda Yankee) wearing the hunting hat with flaps?
Tooo Cute!
Something tells me you blog at work dude. I can't get away with that. I have to physically remove myself from the premises in order to feel superior. ;)
I am loving this weather because today I got to wear my NEW YORK GIANTS SWEATSHIRT!
The Cutlet is looking as cute as ever!
As far as that itchiness goes...try Cetaphil. It's scent-free, and non-greasy. All the men in my family use it to stave off the New England winter wind burn.
You know, sometimes I think that I'd like warmer winters, but really, as Adelle commented it would be a pity, I have many great sweatshirts and hoodies, and the weather would not be condusive to wearing them --- aside from that, I really do love downhill skiing and without snow a skiier is kind of lost!
I feel like the holidays are being shoved down my throat this year. I told all the grandparents only ONE gift this year for the kiddo. Like you said, Christmas is NOT about gifts.
WEll, it's just been cool enough to go hunitng all weekend here!!! OH yes, opening of rifle season!!! YEE-HAW Saw a few, but didn't bag yet...hopes for the next few days!!
Good to read your words again, missed popping over for some good times!!
OMG!!!! HE IS TOOOOO CUTE!!!! :)
