Keep 'Em Coming

So far, I've received some great dinner recipes that promise to deliver deliciousness as part of T-Bone's Dinner Project. Keep them coming! You may either leave a comment here or on the original post, or send an e-mail with dinner suggestions. You may also advertise this project on your own blogs if you like.

Another project I learned of yesterday was an organized blogger music swap. Read about it here. Sign up, share some of your favorite tunes, and broaden your harmonic horizons. During the past few months, some of my favorite bloggers have been kind enough to offer their own mixed CDs. Good stuff!

The question for today, because lately I've been full of questions (among other things): What do you believe is your purpose in life?

my purpose is to create entertainment and inspire people. i've always been an advocate for the imagination, and if i can encourge folks to tune in to theirs, then i'm doing a good job. it's tough to get a feel for my purpose, though, when i'm in such a muddled time. right now my purpose is survival. and i think our purposes morph and change with time.

to make a positive difference in someone's life. Whether it be through a job or volunteer, we all feel motivated and happy when we are making a positive impact on someone. I know my happiest work moments have been as a department manager impacting the business and lives of 60 people. That is my purpose I hope to continue in my recording business. Helping bands succeed.

I think my purpose is to help others. I have been through things that have been good life lessons that I have been able to share with others and assist with their issues.

Whoa, that question is too profound for me today. First I didn't have a good dinner to offer, now I don't know the meaning of life :(

But anyway, the music swap sounds like fun!

Thanks for the music swapping link, T! I'll definitely check that out...

As for my purpose in life, that's a tough one. If we had been able to have a child by now, I would be able to answer this much more easily. Let's just suffice it to say that, for now, my purpose is to have no purpose.

help others inprove their quality of life...at least that is what i am getting paid to do right now. MY personal purpose is to chill as much as i can...and be able to say on my death bed..."man, i lived every day just the way i wanted to".

I am sure that God wants me to help others through the same types of suffering that I have gone through (mainly postpartum depression). I can already die happy and fulfilled because I have heard Him and have done what He wants me to do.

I think just to be there for whoever needs me. I usually make it a point to be available to help others that I know.

My purpose is to make my children into individuals that will make their communities a better place AND to make my own community into a better place.

My purpose is to fix grammar. Luckily, I also get paid to do it. :)

I don't know what my exact purpose is, but I've always thought Ralph Wald Emerson summed up my philosophy pretty well when he said, "To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children. To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition. To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded."

My purpose in life is to make my husband laugh as much as possible until we both grow old.

Unless he's annoying me, then my purpose in life is to make his life miserable until he dies so I can collect the insurance money!

i'm still grappling with my purpose in life. i think its somewhere between "corporate whipping boy" and "murphy's law poster child"...

while i'm grappling with that.. grapple with this:

chocolate orange creme brulee

6 oz. diced bittersweet chocolate
2 cups heavy cream
6 large egg yolks
1 large whole egg
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 cups whole milk
2 tbsp grand marnier liqueur
(or if you're anti-france like me you can substitue 2 tbsp rum and the squeezed juice from 1 large orange)
1 tsp freshly grated orange zest
1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

preheat oven to 325 degrees

add chocolate to a sturdy bowl (stainless steel)

in a saucepan heat 1/2 cup cream over high heat until it starts to boil and pour heated cream into chocolate. let chocolate stand until softened and then whisk until smooth.

in another bowl whisk together yolks, whole egg,
and granulated sugar. slowly add warm chocolate to mixture and continue whisking until a nice smooth consitency.

in the saucepan heat the remaining cream and milk until mixture begins to boil. carefully add milk mixture to egg/chocolate mixture in a steady stream while whisking. if you go too fast you'll end up scrambling the eggs and that sucks (believe that!)

whisk in grand marnier (or rum/orange juice) and orange zest.

skim off any excess froth.

you should have plenty of custard for 8 1/2 cup flame resistant ramekins.

devide up the custard into the ramekins and place them into a deep roasting pan. fill the pan with water until water reaches just midway up the side of the ramekins. carefully place pan into oven and cook 40 minutes or until the custard begins to harden to the point where it will slightly tremble
when the ramekin is disturbed.

remove ramekins from pan and let them cool down slightly before placing into a refridgerator. chill the custard at least 4 hours with loosely wrapped plastic wrap over the top. (chill overnight for best results)

after the custard has had proper time to chill, remove the wrap, and sift brown sugar on top of each ramekin until a nice coating is formed.

now the fun part: obtain a blowtorch from either a cooking supply shop, radio shack, a hardware warehouse, a crack dealer, or somewhere and torch the sugar until it caramelizes and forms a nice crust. a torch burns sugar very quickly so pay extra attention to this step. alternately you can use the broiler in your oven. be sure to preheat your oven and adjust the rack so that the custards will be 2 or 3 inches from the heating elements.

afterwards chill the brulees for an additional 20 minutes and serve promptly..
