The Petite Filet collects baskets. Fortunately, we have found uses for most of them. Hers is not a "look at how many baskets I have" hobby, but it's more of a "I need a basket the Cutlet will fit in" endeavor. Admittedly, I "own" one – it's shaped like a little boat – that is home to my watch, ring and keys at night.
I've been collecting pocket knives since I was 7, a hobby inherited from my dad. After promptly losing that first knife, I've amassed quite an assortment of cheap ones, expensive ones, limited-edition ones and others that hold family sentimental value. Few could be considered weapons, although most could be used in some capacity for pain. I prefer to use them for good, though, when I use them at all.
Nearly a quarter of my collection are knives others have lost. It's a good thing men don't carry handbags, because we'd be losing them every five minutes. Then my collection would take a wrong turn and start including items from Dooney & Bourke and Coach. I'll stick to little blades, thank you.
I haven't purchased any new knives in years, and really, I don't think I need any more. I may even jettison the ones that don't mean anything to pare down and add value to the overall assortment.
What do you collect? How did you get started? Why is your collection important to you?
Side note: As a blogger, I also collect comments. Most of the ones I get here are quite thoughtful, often putting my original posts to shame. Since moving to this site on Aug. 12, I've gotten more than 600 comments (even a few from myself). Wow! That surprised me. The number would be even larger with the addition of my old Squawkbox comments (lost in the ether) and the Haloscan comments I used last at the old digs. Thanks for reading. Know that anything you say here is usually read closely, savored and enjoyed – as are the things you post on your own blogs. Have a great day!

The cutlet should take up a part time modeling job and put some of the "snot nosed kids" I see in adds these days out of bizniss!!
Ok, the Cutlet is just too cute.
That said, I have been collecting vintage Fiesta dishes for the last few years. I love those bright colors and cool art deco shapes.
I have also been collecting scottie dogs (usually trinkets rather than living, breathing canines) since I was a very little girl. I have some pretty cool antique linens, figurines and carvings that showcase the little guys, and I bought a cute mug over the weekend.
Awww. Cute Cutlet.
Okay, back to the question. Being a pack-rat of sorts, I collect thing fairly easily...but here are the major collections:
1. Cookbooks
2. Cookie Cutters
3. Tea Pots
4. Funky Socks
5. Pens (interesting ones that write well)
Aww, how adorable!
I'm not really collecting anything right now. There hasn't been just one thing that brings me enough joy to make me want to buy it over and over again. Someday tho, I'm sure I will find my obsession. Until then, I'll buy meaningless crap and pretend to be satisfied.
I know its been said time and time again, but good God, thats a cute bebe.
I have a few wierd collections:
Chapsticks/lipglosses
Piglet (from winnie the pooh)
Angel Stuff
Ex-Boyfriends
Ticket Stubs (from any event I've ever attended starting around 1986 w/ my first Kindergarten field trip to the Zoo)
Pint Glasses
Snapple Caps (They're or the Yard Sale though)
Shoes (I've amassed about 150 pairs so far...mom's getting mad about it, lol)
I just LOVE that baby! So happy and adorable.
Personally I collect DVD's. I just started about 6 months ago and it makes me so happy when I get a new one. I could care less what it's a dvd of. I just want as many as possible.
And also a basket to put them in. When Cutlet gets to big for his, send it my way!
Awwwwwww isn't he just adorable!!! Cute cute baby!!!
What do I collect ~ crystal, Cocker Spaniel figurines, Precious Moments figurines, tea sets and fine china. Hubby would say basically anything that collects dust.
Firstly, that pic of the Cutlet is *adorable*.
Someone asked me that very question recently in a blogger interview. I was stumped...and it wasn't until after I answered that I realized what the answer really was.
Quotes. I love quotes - I started jotting them down in a small journal in 1994. I carried that little book with me everywhere, and just opening it up and going to a random page inspired me, touched me, made me think or made me laugh. That book was stolen by someone that wanted to hurt me. I began a new book, finding a lot of the old quotes, and have added, now, hundreds of new ones. The new "quote book" (as I call it) was started in 1998. It, too, goes everywhere with me. I get quotes from books, things people have said, song lyrics, articles, ads, etc. There are famous quotes, quotes by people I know, and a few by me. I get excited finding new ones that touch me enough to add them. I collect quotes.
When I was a teenager, I collected any and everything Def Leppard-related. Today, a Lep collection worth $3,000 sits at my parents house. ;)
after saying that the pressure is really on with the comments. i have nothing clever to say tho.
i collect picture discs.
You have the cutest baby in all the world!
I collect refrigerator magnets and pottery from places I've traveled.
As a young girl I started collecting dolls, you know those scary ones with the eyes that follow you. As I got older I begged everyone to drop it, i don't want anymore dolls.
Now, I try to avoid collecting things but if anyone asks I say I collect boxes, ornate boxes, and random mirrors. I've got a nice collection going and nothing I get is ever the same. Which is my whole problem with collections, sameness.
Awwww. I know you're glad they'll be home tomorrow night.
I collect 1940's pottery, antique dishes, linens, and silver.
The Cutlet is looking more and more like his father!!
I collect stamps. I'm a nerd.
aw what a LOVERLY kiddddddd!!!
I collect those little finger puppets that they sell on the tops of candy cane stics at Starbucks. Any of them EXCEPT the muppet ones.
secret message for agent tbone: meat it is!
I should steal your key home for the night idea. I would have a lot fewer frantic mornings if my keys didn't sleep where the pleased.
(And it goes without saying, but SO cute.)
The cutlet is precious. What a fantastic picture!
I collect:
1. images (I carry a camera with me everywhere I go and have boxes filled with negatives and photo cds)
2. antique (vintage) cameras
3. fountain pens
4. leather-bound books
5. cobalt blue glass
i collect compliments.
oh, god golly, i'm kidding.
i collect starbucks city mugs. books and books and books, too. books have been a lifelong 'thing' of mine, since i was a little girl. i used to run a big ol bookstore, so that helped my collection grow. i don't know how i got in to the starbucks mugs, but it's nice to get one as a souvenir from a city i've been to. it used to be that you could only get them in the city they represented, but now they've redesigned them, and you can get them online. oh, and ebay. and if nice blogger friends like windowsill wendy are kind enough to send you one.
now, if everyone who commented on your site commented on my site... just a thought.
isn't it amazing how far we've come since we started up?
So cute!
I collect books. Not nice antique ones, just regular and/or used crummy ones. I collect junk due to my packratness, but that is not really on purpose. Oh, yeah, and I collect pictures of vegetables doing *naughty* things :)
I used to have a collection of used toothpicks and straws, from when I worked at the cafeteria dishroom in college. I was going to make a sculpture about waste from needless eating implements. I think I might have gotten rid of it in my last move.
I have fortune cookie fortunes, bus passes (which change color every week), puppets (shadow and finger), plastic toy figurines, ephemera (including old photos). I just recently have gotten into buying racy photos and postcards from buygone eras. I found some nudie photos from the 50's recently.
check out japanese baskets. they're very sculptural.

I have a pretty good collection of matchbooks that I keep in a large glass on my coffee table. They are mostly from places here in Dallas, but I have some from London and about six or seven other states in the US.
first, what a hunk in the basket....whew....heartbreaker all the way.
i collect frogs. not the slimy jumping kind....i collect the kind that set of the self and collect dust. my sister brought me one back when i was just a tot....with only three limbs (seemed she lost one during the trip)...and i've been collecting ever since...just stuck.
Aw, that cutlet. So cute. Babies everywhere! AURGH!
My collections number two. One is things with black roses on them, black roses themselves, etc. My collection includes mirrors, pens, pencils, artwork, letter openers, oil diffusers, greeting cards, paintings...
The other collection is bottles with corks. Not stoppers, but corks. And not wine bottles, though I've been known to enjoy a little vino (snort)... decorative bottles, blown glass, multicolored glass... I have all kinds, every shape and size, and when I see one I don't have I just *HAVE* to get it. Some of the best ones have been gifts from other people but it's hard for them because most folks don't realize just how may bottles I *HAVE*...
Yeah. Bottles.
T-Bone, I thought for years that collections had to be like spoons or salt and pepper shakers, until I found that Semantha’s mother in that old show “Bewitched” collected doorknobs. So now I collect unusual rocks from places I have been that I label in white, gold, or black. And because I love the color, feel, and texture, of unfinished wood, I collect spoons and unusual wooden kitchen utensils. Pretty earthy stuff, but I love the feel of rock and wood. I guess baskets would be in a similar category.
i have always wanted to collect something cool... like handcuffs or spoons or something. but most of my "collections" are just things i refuse to throw away. because you never know!
You have the Row Your Boat basket??? LOL! I collect these too... and even sell them. I think me and the Petite Filet would get along quite well...
Can't help but comment on the beautiful child. Adorable.
I collect pincushions, wine labels, and eiffel towers.
Very cute pic and definately worth framing.
As far as my collections go, I collect Bird Houses and Precious Moments Figurines. I've also been known to have a collection of clothes, perfume, lipstick and shoes. These are things I can't seem to get enough of.
Cutlet so cute!
I collect:
Cats & Dogs (live ones)
Cats (anything with cats)
ticket stubs (on the back i write who I attended the event with)
Shoes & Clothes (I have way too many)
Books
Antiques (as in furniture, not so much nicknacks)
Pillows
I cant come up with anything witty to say along with this... kindo of a blah day, but forgive me, next time I will try to do better.
