#2: Follow Your Heart

| | Comments (4)

I'm sure I'm not the only one with lists. To do lists, grocery lists, things I need to do for work, lists of chores for the kids (that I need to managed, follow-up, and supervise) . . .

Are you list-driven? I mean, do you start your day doing things that are on your list, checking them off as you go? Is the success of your day dependent upon how many things get crossed off that list? Worse, do you ADD an item to your list, then cross it off if you did it?

Hmmm . . . we're in good company. Trust me.

If you are a list junkie, then chances are likely that you don't follow your heart as often as you should. Creating a charmed life requires it. Demands that you take time for those little things that interrupt your plan. They are not the urgent, unimportant things like the phone ringing, but rather a little more subtle.

Like my husband, who just asked me if I'd read Opus from last week's Sunday paper. . . I just blew him off because I was bent on getting this written. I mean who cares about a comic strip from last week anyway?? Hmmm . . . I think this counts as one of those moments.

Think I'll go find out what prompted his question. *S*

(Raising my hand) I'm a list junky.

And, yes, on occasion I have added things to the list that had to be accomplished so that I could get to the item I wanted to cross off. Every now and then you need the reinforcement of seeing items lined through.

Occasionally, I have a list that becomes so ragged, or smudged, that I will take the last one or two items and start a new list. Unfortunately, those one or two items may be moved this way several times before I finally get to delete them. I think that calls for a party, or at least chocolate!

I am ignoring lists for the day. Dear Husband is away, sailing, and I have spent most of the day piecing a wall hanging. I'd say that qualifies as "following my heart," wouldn't you?

Let us know what Opus had to say a week ago. And tell your beautiful oldest daughter happy birthday for us. *S*

Half-guilty, I plead. I make lists--then ignore or lose them, usually. Once in a long while I actually check things off on a list; but, in general, once I put something on a list I think that my work is done! lol

I can see that we're going to have to nag her, Nan. Clearly Cop Car is in want of shaping up, list wise!

No, actually I think Cop Car has something there.

Being a procrastinator by nature (the Navy and education have trained this out of me), there is benefit to writing something down on paper. It serves as notice, or perhaps a mental committment, that you intend to do the task. For some people, that is half way to getting the job done! I have to admit that when a task seems a little bigger than I'm ready for, simply reducing it to its parts and then writing those parts down allows me, even permits me, to begin with courage and commitment.
