Got to blame someone

Timeline

Friday, Aug. 26: Gov. Kathleen Blanco declares a state of emergency in Louisiana and requests troop assistance.

Saturday, Aug. 27: Gov. Blanco asks for federal state of emergency. A federal emergency is declared giving federal officials the authority to get involved.

Sunday, Aug. 28: Mayor Ray Nagin orders mandatory evacuation of New Orleans. President Bush warned of Levee failure by National Hurricane Center. National Weather Service predicts area will be "uninhabitable" after Hurricane arrives. First reports of water toppling over the levee appear in local paper.

Monday, Aug. 29: Levee breaches and New Orleans begins to fill with water, Bush travels to Arizona and California to discuss Medicare. FEMA chief finally responds to federal emergency, dispatching employees but giving them two days to arrive on site.

Tuesday, Aug. 30: Mass looting reported, security shortage cited in New Orleans. Pentagon says that local authorities have adequate National Guard units to handle hurricane needs despite governor's earlier request. Bush returns to Crawford for final day of vacation. TV coverage is around-the-clock Hurricane news.

Wednesday, Aug. 31: Tens of thousands trapped in New Orleans including at Convention Center and Superdome in "medieval" conditions. President Bush finally returns to Washington to establish a task force to coordinate federal response. Local authorities run out of food and water supplies.

Thursday, Sept. 1: New Orleans descends into anarchy. New Orleans Mayor issues a "Desperate SOS" to federal government. Bush claims nobody predicted the breach of the levees despite multiple warnings and his earlier briefing.

Friday, Sept. 2: Karl Rove begins Bush administration campaign to blame state and local officials—despite their repeated requests for help. Bush stages a photo-op—diverting Coast Guard helicopters and crew to act as backdrop for cameras. Levee repair work orchestrated for president's visit and White House press corps.

Saturday, Sept. 3: Bush blames state and local officials. Senior administration official (possibly Rove) caught in a lie claiming Gov. Blanco had not declared a state of emergency or asked for help.

Monday, Sept. 5: New Orleans officials begin to collect their dead.

Those are the facts. State and local officials BEGGED for help as people in their city suffered. The Bush administration didn't get the job done and when their failure became an embarrassment they attacked those asking for help.

The New York Times reported on Friday that Karl Rove and White House communications director Dan Bartlett "rolled out a plan...to contain the political damage from the administration's response to Hurricane Katrina." The core of the strategy is "to shift the blame away from the White House and toward officials of New Orleans and Louisiana."

My personal feelings aside...I think the facts speak for themselves

Not one to break up a Bush bashing ~ however many facts are left out of this time line. But of course it would be as it wouldn't be as affective Bush bashing!! Yet, someone might want to inform the Mayor, President of the City Council of New Orleans and Governor of Lousiana this information because in their own words, in news articles, TV and Oprah they are stating different things than written in this time line. There is no denying efforts of resuce and assistance was not quick enough, even Bush admits that straight up,hense why they are going to form an investigation and put into place new directives to prevent such a tragic ever again. Yet with such a large area to cover to help everyone needed one just can't snap their fingers and walah it happens! Just as you said it is hard to ignore facts regardless of how one feels about the situation, just it is a pity that no one cares to write ALL the facts not just the one's to fule the never ending fire of Bush basing!

I think all of the back in forth crap is ridiculous! However, I do agree with Jamie. And the majority of the people who don't back Bush are just a bunch of liberal Pagans who pick and choose and straddle the fence!!! Go figure I bet they voted for Kerry!!!!!

Gertie, I have no idea who the heck you are, where the hell you came from, or why you feel the need to keep commenting on my blog(s)
you are certainly entitled to your oppinion, however, why not try posting a url to your own blog so we can read them, or at least use a valid email address (since that is masked on this site!) since I'm rather gun shy about people I don't know (except that their IP traces to St. Louis, MO) commenting on my site

Jamie, since you say there is all this wealth of information about how what I'm posting is incorrect, I'd love to see some verification of that...please email me the links and I'll be glad to post a retraction

wouldn't you like to know...you never will...my husband (who is a man) is Mr. IT and believe me we are not in Mo.!!!

LOLOLOLOLOLOLO

good for you, I still fail to see why the fuck you feel the need to comment on my site, when you don't even know who the hell I am or anything about me.

and no, you're in TX...your IP just resolves to MO

T, I agree with you 100%. I think we don't need an occasion to bash Mr. President - he does that all on his own. It just seems that everything he touches screws up! I think it's simply pathetic that the people that were affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina had to wait as long as they did for assistance. I can’t imagine being completely helpless and my government doing what seems as nothing to assist me. It is just wrong. Whether it is a terrorist act or an act bestowed by Mother Nature, our country should have ran to their rescue – period.

I love how all of the news casts made a point to let Americans know that our magnificent president saw fit to cut his vacation short by two whole days (since it was a five freaking week vacation) so he could do a couple of photo shoots in the air above NOLA. I’ve never been more proud to be an American as I am today. (puke)

And for this Gertie person – are you on T’s blog to just show your true ignorance? If that’s the case, you’ve done well. Congratulations.

...so I guess you're right about one thing is that I don't know you..... I came across this flippin' sight doing a search on eagles....what I know about you is obviously public because it is on the web....so who's ignorant you stupid dike!

Me? at least I know it's spelled dyke, a dike is something that holds back water...and I'm a femme dear...I'd be more than happy to send you some links to explain the difference (if you're going to try and insult someone, at least have your facts 'straight' so to speak)

you can see I don't have any 'eagles' here...so why have you spent so many hours on my site the last 3 days?
yes, what I put on here is public, and it is on the web, however, this is not a 'public' forum, you do not have the 'freedom' to express whatever you want to here, until you start paying my server bill this is still MY space.

Gertie, if you’d like information regarding who we (lesbians) are, just ask. We’ll be more than happy to educate you accordingly. However, how dare you come to a T’s blog, her personal posts and begin a quest in an attempt to disrespect her. Get you own blog and post your own feelings and such and stay away if you can’t show some respect.

My goddess, T – how do these morons find you? LOL

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that Mady has not stopped playing with the stuff that you and M got her for her birthday. Thanks!! :-D

Oh, and Gertie - just to ease your mind, I did vote for Kerry. :-D

Hey - when you get a chance, check out my LJ - posted a really "makes ya' think" letter regarding our dear ole presy. :)

Oh goodness did Hurricane Gertie decide to fly far far away? If she did thank goodness for that! Just what we need around here another ignorant trying to stir the pot!

But looks like Tara and T have it all covered so I will scoot on to the next one.

Wow T, don't yah just love the damn herds if destructive spam that Hurricane Gertie left behind. Want you be glad when she finally gets all that hot air out so she can disappear into a dark oblivion where she belongs.

Go away Gertie no one wants you here! It must be true that someone's life is always worse than your own. Wish I had nothing to do all day but sit around and try discuss life with a bunch of GLBT people that never asked or wanted me around anyway.

well...if she truely means what she said, then we won't be hearing from her again....
and for goddess sake, you only have to hit post ONCE...not 4 times...
but no matter, I delted them all anyway, you can say whatever you like here, (within reason) in regards to me, however, when you bring my children into it, I tend to take that very personally, and have no qualms about deleting your comment
see ya! (in hell most likely, since the bible does say something about 'thou shall not judge')

"so who's ignorant you stupid dike!"

Geez... that just about says it ALL for the Bush supporters, doesn't it? Fact is, the Federal Government dropped the ball, and now they're more worried about PR than they are about saving lives.

Typical.

Perhaps Gertie can take off her blinders for a bit, and explain how a mass evacuation was ordered before Katrina hit... because they knew.

Sigh. My only regret in standing on line for 3 hours to vote for Kerry was that he didn't win.
