Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Ohio, Utah and Oregon all voted to ban gay marriage yesterday.
I feel like we've taken a giant step backwards in time, and once again its accepted to descriminate against another class of people just because they're different from us.
What is everyone so afraid of? It's not like we were asking for special treatment, just EQUAL!
I don't undestand it either. Why can't we be treated as equals? They don't seem to let us out of our portion of the taxes that we pay? Why can't we have the same rights as everyone else? GGRRRRRR

I know it's fustrating but it goes to show that we need to fight harder. Unfortunately we have more of an uphill battle now. So I say lets all get involved...go to our respective GLBT community centers etc and get involved.
I couldn't agree with both of you more, and I do consider myself to be somewhat involved, but I think it's time to bump it up a notch

Change does not happen over night. Look at what African American people had to go through. Look at how many years of struggle they had to endure. It did not happen over night, matter of fact it took many years. Just like with equal rights for women. That took a while to get totally get pushed through. And even though women and African American's have equal rights, there is still discrimination that exist today. I just look at the things that got banned for Gays and Lesbians as just a start to the many years of fight we have left. I look at it as we have finally gotten some type of recognition. They know that we exist. They know we are not going away either. So we just have to keep pushing through.
Don't look at it as having to put up with another 4 years with Bush, look at it as Bush having to deal with another four years of us....all us Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender people. He will prolly hang himself before the four years ends, dealing with us nuts.
ranran - I agree that it doesn't happen overnight...but, WE have to change too. I think way too many people got complacent. Those who were born never knowing that songs once resided on vinyl also lived in a time when student unions always had a glbt center/group and everyone always expected the gay guy/grrl to bring their *real* date to the prom. The Pride March has turned into the Pride Parade. We all need to wake up and realize that we're not there yet. And we *all* need to stop taking our rights for granted -- before they're whittled away one slogan at a time.
I don't have the numbers at hand, but way too many states have also voted on limitations for abortions. Personally, I would hope not to have to experience an abortion, but I believe that a woman should have the right to control her own body. All these changes reflect increasing control over the women of the country, and it's frightening to be loosing these hard won rights.
