moving day(s)

| | Comments (9)

no, I'm not changing servers again, very happy with the one I have, thanks anyway *s*
as I posted before, I have to actually, physically, move *deep sighs*
I hate moving...
I especially hate moving during holiday times...
this is also the first move where it's just me moving the entire house...before I just had clothes, dishes, etc...and accumulated more as I got settled...usually from friends with pickup trucks and spare furniture...
not that I need furniture anymore...and I still have friends with trucks...but doubt seriously that any of them will let me 'borrow' for the holiday...:lol
ok, enough of the whinefest...

the phone and gas get turned on at the new place tomorrow...so I get to be there most of the day, and if I want to receive any phone calls, from then on...:rofl
so I will try to be productive and finish cleaning the place, and the majority of the stuff moved over while I wait...
but the DSL won't be up and going until NEXT Wed. :errrr
so I'll either deal with dial-up again (damn, didn't take me long to get spoiled did it? :biglaugha) or get allot accomplished between now and then...
which do YOU think it will be...:wink

mt-rssfeed

with blogrolling getting hacked the other day, it motivated me to put something in motion here that I've wanted to do for a long time, I'd had it bookmarked for a while, but was worried I would fubar my MT install, or that it was beyond my abilities...
thankfully, I was wrong *s*
I used a combination of several tutorials...which I will combine here for you to use, and in case I ever have to do it again :smile
as usual, change the items in bold

  • first of course, is to download mt-list and mt-rssfeed and extract the files
  • open the mt-rssfeed.pl file in whatever text editor you use, you will (probably) need to edit this line # my $RSSFEED_DATA_DIR = "./db/"; to something like my $RSSFEED_DATA_DIR = "/home/redeagl/public_html/mt/db/"; if you are using a mysql install, you will need to add a 'db' folder in your MT instilation...if not, you will probably want to not have this in the same db folder that the rest of your MT uses. (ps, don't forget to uncomment the beginning of the line)
  • upload mt-list and mt-rssfeed into your plugins folder in MT
  • upload LP.pm (with the mt-rssfeed download) into yourMTdir/extlib/XML/RSS, if you don't have this folder, create it using this path.
  • in MT, create a new index template, (I'm using the same layout as my main page) in the 'body' part insert this code
    <MTList name="feeds"> <$MTInclude module="feeds"$> </MTList>

    <MTListLoop name="feeds">
    <MTRSSFeed>
    <a href="<$MTRSSFeedLink$>"><$MTRSSFeedTitle$></a><br/>   <MTRSSFeedItems lastn="2">
      *<a href="<$MTRSSFeedItemLink$>"><$MTRSSFeedItemTitle$></a><br/>
    </MTRSSFeedItems>
    </MTRSSFeed>
    </MTListLoop>
    Syndicated using <a href="http://www.mplode.com/tima/files/mt-plugins/#mt-rssfeed";>mt-rssfeed</a>

    now you will notice, this uses a module, if you don't wish to use a module where
    <$MTInclude module="feeds"$>
    is, simply replace with the .xml url
    example:
    <MTList name="feeds">
    http://www.redeaglespirit.com/us_here/index.xml
    http://www.redeaglespirit.com/album/index.xml
    http://justjet.redeaglespirit.com/JJ/index.xml
    http://justjet.redeaglespirit.com/speedbump/index.xml
    http://www.redeaglespirit.com/lifesongs/index.xml
    http://arrrgh.redeaglespirit.com/index.xml
    http://tbone.redeaglespirit.com/index.xml
    http://homeslice.redeaglespirit.com/index.xml
    http://justjet.redeaglespirit.com/album/index.xml
    </MTList>
    <MTListLoop name="feeds">
    <MTRSSFeed>
    <a href="<$MTRSSFeedLink$>"><$MTRSSFeedTitle$></a><br/>
    <MTRSSFeedItems lastn="1">
      *<a href="<$MTRSSFeedItemLink$>"><$MTRSSFeedItemTitle$></a><br/>
    </MTRSSFeedItems>
    </MTRSSFeed>
    </MTListLoop>
    <p>Syndicated using <a href="http://www.mplode.com/tima/files/mt-plugins/#mt-rssfeed">mt-rssfeed</a></p>

this is exactly the way I've got it set up on my site, the tutorial I used also gave instructions how to do it with part of the post included, I didn't want to have all that in mine...your miliage may vary :smile
the last thing I did was set up a cron job, so it would rebuild every hour and let me see when someone has posted (which was my main purpose for having blogrolling!)
/usr/bin/prl /home/redeagl/public_html/mt/mt-rebuild.pl -mode=all -blog_id=1
obviously you will have to change the blog id, and your path to Perl if different, and absolute path...if your server allows cron jobs (my old one did not!) which if this is the case with you, manual rebuild is the way you will have to go :sad

last but not least, if you need any help let me know *s* if I can, I'd be happy to!!
have fun!

has never been one of MY virtues...
so instead of waiting for blogrolling to get back up and running...I took the bull by the horns and implemented something I'd been looking at for several months...mt-rssfeed..and OMG it works!! :banana
I'll probably post on Us [here] (aka the tech blog) how I did it...with proper credit in all places of course :Woot

I must say...I was very surprised how few I had in my reads list that I wasn't able to syndicate...always thought there were allot more...

~no more error messages here! I have a rep to protect :rofl~

damn hackers

I fail to see, how someone can have nothing better to do with their time than to hack into something...
for example...blogrolling...*rolling eyes*

to those people I would like to say, GET A LIFE!!

to everyone else, thank god for the backup feature...now if I could just get the import one to work :sad

my links will return later today...after I've slept
(and the reason the 'hosted here' ones are back is because I can pull them out of MT...:rofl )

all the news...

well...it's been an interesting week here in the 'nest'...not sure how interesting it will be to the rest of you, so I'll just hit the highlights :smile

first off...the kids grandpa is doing better, he's still in the hospital, off the respirator and sedative, and trying to get out of there (not gonna happen anytime soon) he had 'threw' a blood clot which blocked off one of his lungs, has pneumonia, and they found he also has congestive heart failure and had a heart attack in the last 2 years or so :sad

on the home front, I found a place here locally, about 10-12 blocks from where I am now, only 2 bedroom but the one bedroom is about the size of the boys 2 rooms put together...huge yard, much better shape than the place I'm in now, 2 buildings in the back, one for storage and one I could make into a playhouse for the kids...the boys love it (can't wait to move in actually)
but I still hate this town...*sighs*

anywayyyyyy...I'm here for the time being...vacation put on hold, Christmas is looking up...and my father is gone (he was here taking care of the kids while I worked and their dad was at the hospital w/grandpa)
I love my father...if not for him I wouldn't be here...however, we do NOT have the same opinions on ALLOT of things!!
example: the Jessica Lynch issue...while I agree it's been blown way out of proportion by the media, his opinion is that she has no business being in the army in the first place...and I quote
"she should have stayed home and had babies like a womans supposed to, she had no business being in any mans army"
EXCUSE ME?!?!
is it any wonder this is the only family member I'm NOT out to??

Say what?!?!

well...things have been just lovely here...how bout y'all?

My landlord came over today to get the rent...after I handed him the check he says to me
him: "I hate to do this (then don't is what I'm thinking) but I need you to be out by the first of the month"
me: 'excuse me?'
him: "I need to raise the rent by $100.00, so I need you to move so I can do that."
me: "this place is gonna need ALLOT of work before you can do that"
him: "I know, I'm going to move in and work on it, so my son can live in the property I'm living in now...things have been so tight for me since the divorce that I have to do this"
me: kind of a hard time to do it...right before the holidays like that.
him: well, there's really no good time to do it, if you need a couple more days, just let me know and I'll see what I can do.
me..thinking to self: gee..how nice of you *rolling eyes*

so now, on top of everything else, I have to move in the next 3 weeks...yes, I know they are supposed to give 30 days notice in most cases, however, my landlord is a Judge (only one in town)...what am I gonna do...take him to court?

I'm at a loss of what to do, do I find a place here, where there's not much left in my price range, but I have a job that no matter how much I gripe about it, I really do like...look for a job elsewhere and move there where there's more options (aka, money and places to live)...and what about my kids...*sighs*...move them...fight to take them, settle for only having them during summer and vacation time...
when I said I wasn't sure how much more I could take...it wasn't a challenge dammit!!!

I have a Friday night off...thanks just the same, but I'd rather not :sad
my kids are here...all 3 of them...because their little worlds got quite a shaking today...

I was training last night/this morning, and I got a call about 6:15am from my ex (which usually means something wrong with the kids)
in a roundabout way, it was...their grandfather, (the exes dad) who's been staying with them for the last month or so, had stopped breathing, 911 had been called, cops and paramedics all over the place, and my kids woke up to this...
needless to say my boss was very understanding why I was leaving...and even arranged for my shift to be covered tonight so I wouldn't have to wake the kids to take them to work with me...

he's got blood clots in his lungs and legs... he's not breathing on his own...but somehow, when the sedative wears off, he fights to take the tubes out...

my heart hurts for my kids...my oldest is being typically the oldest...holding it all in except to tell me that he's worried about his grandpa, and you can tell in the way he acts he has the weight of the world on his shoulders....the middle child, my 'sensitive one' gets upset over every little thing, from telling him it's dinner time, to whats on tv...the little guy (OK, he's really NOT that little *s*) is aware of what's going on, in his own way, and tells you how upset his is about it before something else grabs his attention...
hes been such a major part of their lives from the beginning, and will (probably) be the first major loss in it...maybe it's selfish of me, but I'm not sure I'm prepared to help them deal with that sad

just woke up and need some help
