Happy Birthday to me!

| | Comments (4)

that's right...it's my birfday :banana
to bad I gotta work tonight :sad
I've always thought it was the coolest thing to get to dress up and get 'candy from strangers' on my birthday...how many kids get to do that? and naturally my boys now think it's just awesome that mama dresses up (yes, I dress up every year...*view last years pictures*) and takes them out on her 'birthday'

thank you all who came by and sent birthday wishes...I received an email not to long ago with some 'history' of customs this time of year...not sure how accurate all of it is, but if you're interested, read on!

one of these days...

I will figure this out.
Apparently, the dick-head I used to be married to has been reading my blog...again...
how he manages this, I have no idea, since he doesn't own a computer.
but once again, he thinks he knows more about whats going on in my life than actually is...
for example...according to him, everyone I talk to on-line thinks they're a witch
:hum
that's interesting...and also news to me!
:wtf, my sexuality didn't get you anyplace in court, so now my spirituality is going to be called into question?
and what is the purpose of all this investigation? everything has been settled (for now) and why would you care who I talk to, or what I believe, you never did before...and you're hardly a model of 'Christianity' yourself there guy!

he also wants to discuss the matter of my vacation, and what I'm doing then...hell my vacation is not even in the works yet! nor will it be for some time due to us being short handed...
then tells me "you need to remember that you're their mother and spend time with them"
I spend every day with them (all total, probably more of their waking hours than he does) yet, "I never spend any time with them"
I tell you what his problem is...and yes, I did tell him this...
"No one is more aware of the fact I am their mother than I am...the problem YOU have, is remembering that I'm not your wife!"

yea...it did feel pretty good :biggrin

unfuckingbelieveable

well...apparently the person I was training decided he couldn't hack it either...he decided to call in and quit 2 1/2 hours before his shift started tonight...:angry
will someone please tell me why in the HELL, I'm feeling guilty about not being able to go in? :hum
I'm not the manager...
yes, I would get overtime...$10.50 an hour (mind you, I've already got 7 1/2 hours of OT this paycheck)
I've got 2 kids here sleeping...no way can I go in...my boss and I have both been up since 4:30 am...but she's the one working tonight...we can't find anyone else that can cover it.
and I'm feeling guilty...:fdup
I'm also mad as hell because I find it hard to believe someplace is going to call you at 8pm at night, and offer you a job, but only if you start the next day! (yea, I was born yesterday and fell for that line of crap :uhoh3)

to top it all off, we also found out tonight that inspection is Wed. which means everyone is going to be working their asses off until that's over
:pummel
well...better get :sleeping...who knows when I'll get another night off
:wtf

time on my hands...

Last week, I finally finished up working on the computers in Durant.. refomated, networked, sharing internet connection, and EVERYTHING working like it's supposed to!!
:cocktail here's hoping she doesn't change her mind again on what she wants them to do!
the person who was working on my nights off switched departments, so had to train a new hire, who has never worked at anything like this before, to do it :uhoh3

We had 2 new people at work this last week, one of them apparently decided last night that she no longer wanted to work there...so instead of calling and informing us of this, she doesn't show up for work this morning...nice huh? :let_it_all_out
then the other one, apparently his dad got stomped on by a cow and had to go to the hospital...which wasn't so much the problem...but he was scheduled to work 3-11 shift last night and forgot to call and tell us he wouldn't be able to make it in :angry ain't overtime grand?

So now that I have all this free time...and I have my vouchers paid for, it's time to buckle down and study for this...I wanted to have it completed by my birthday (which is next Friday BTW! :biggrin and yes I know what day that is!) but unless I get allot more 'free time' it ain't gonna happen...so hopefully by vacation time I will have it completed...which the way things are looking...will be sometime in the next millennium...*deep sigh*

well, it's flattering

But I don't think I'm THAT good a being! *s*

Goddess
You are Form 1, Goddess: The Creator.

"And The Goddess planted the acorn of life.
She cried a single tear and shed a single drop
of blood upon the earth where she buried it.
From her blood and tear, the acorn grew into
the world."

Some examples of the Goddess Form are Gaia (Greek),
Jehova (Christian), and Brahma (Indian).
The Goddess is associated with the concept of
creation, the number 1, and the element of
earth.
Her sign is the dawn sun.

As a member of Form 1, you are a charismatic
individual and people are drawn to you.
Although sometimes you may seem emotionally
distant, you are deeply in tune with other
people's feelings and have tremendous empathy.
Sometimes you have a tendency to neglect your
own self. Goddesses are the best friends to
have because they're always willing to help.

you might want to add 'menguma.com' to it...Jamie got hit with her first one today from it.
I've been almost computer-less for the last couple days, CPU fan decided to stop working...(not a good thing!) so I went and bought another one....it didn't work either...seems the connector on the motherboard was where the problem was :sad
fortunately, there is an adapter to hook it into the power supply (and much cheaper alternative than a new motherboard, or even a new fan!) bad part is that I have so much on here already, all my plugs were taken...
*sighs* I really didn't need a CD-ROM AND CD-RW did I?
And yes, for those that pay attention, this is the same computer I re-built just 4 months ago :angry

I just installed MT-Blacklist on the site, to see if we can't rid ourselves of comment spam.
Please let me know if it causes commenting problems for anyone!!

Feeling Lazy?

| | Comments (1)

I figured out the coolest thing the other day!
Using the 'otherblog' plugin on this blog has been nice, but in order for the most current comments from the other sites to show up, I've had to go in and manually rebuild the site...
not anymore!
While surfing around the other day I found this over at mt-plugins site. Basically how I did it, is upload the files to my mt directory, and add a Cron job to run (I didn't even edit the file!!)
The Cron that works for my server is
/usr/bin/perl /home/username/public_html/mt/mt-rebuild.pl -mode=all -blog_id=#

replacing the 'username' with your username, and the # with what the blog number is you're wanting this to work on.
Also remember, if you have MT in your cgi-bin, that will need to go between public_html and mt (or whatever the path is on your particular server for MT)
And now, with no assistance from me...it updates all on it's own *S*

Download mt-rebuild files here.

Say WHAT?!?

you've got to be kidding me!

So this is the worst thing he can come up with to make an issue about right now?
:wtf
I must have missed something here...like whatever it was that makes him an authority on raising children (we all know his own turned out SO well!) not to mention what makes him an expert on what is right for every person in America.

However, it doesn't look like some other 'experts' agree with him on the whole 'family' issue...

The nation's leading child welfare, psychological and children's health organizations also have issued policy or position statements declaring that a parent's sexual orientation is irrelevant to his or her ability to raise a child. Many also have condemned discrimination based on sexual orientation in adoption, custody and other parenting situations and called for equal rights for all parents and children. Further, several of these organizations also have issued statements declaring that a parent's gender identity and/or physical appearance is irrelevant to his or her abilities as a parent
(**and not just one group, several links to groups that feel this way on this page**)

This part also jumped out at me
We are also working to make sure that the Federal Government does not penalize marriage. My tax relief package eliminated the marriage penalty.

What marriage penalty? Last I checked, single/no dependents were the ones paying in the most, while married filing jointly was substantially lower (in most cases)

Last point...I wonder, if it's more that coincidence, that his "Marriage Protection Week" (protection from what??) starts the day after "National Coming out Day" (which is today BTW :smile )

We're not asking for "special" treatment, we just want the same treatment and rights everyone else is entitled to!

you've heard it all...or at least ever stupid thing you possibly could!

As some know, I get about 2 days (nights) off a week...if I'm lucky
for most of these lately, I've been trying my damnedest to be a mind reader/tech support to one of the properties our parent company owns...normally I don't mind this, truth be told I actually enjoy it...except in this case.
I have NEVER met a person so computer illiterate!! EVER!! and that's saying allot...I thought most I work with on a daily basis had that pretty locked up...I was so wrong...:uhoh3
In this case, not only have I had to explain how to reboot the computer, check her email, and the importance of not throwing away the disks to reinstall the operating system (was to late, they already did *sighs*) but have had to go into detail about why, because she had her computer hooked up to a network (dsl connection) she got over 30 infected files due to so-big and blaster...(and no, they had no virus protection on this machine AT ALL) she just wants me to 'fix it' and wonders why it doesn't didn't work, because "she didn't even check her email" :uhoh3
It's very frustrating, to do this for someone, who not only does not care why, does not TRY to understand why, but also cannot seem to make up her mind what the hell she wants to do with these computers...
then yesterday came the kicker...I finally got the one reformatted that had the viruses, and was working on the other one to get them networked, etc...the cdrom is shot on this one, it wont open...and one of the housekeepers was just getting off work.
I don't claim to be a genius, and I know I don't know everything, but I'll be damned if when I'm working on something, I'm going to stand back and let someone come in and tell me what I need to try...when I explained to her I knew what the problem was, she stands there and says, "well, you need to do this" (she thought I was trying to install a program off a CD :errrr) I gave her 'the look' :let_it_all_out and said, no, that's not the issue, the drive is not even opening...to which she comes over and try's to 'fix' it for me :wtf
by this time, I'm pissed, and informed her I did know something about what I was doing, since I build/repair computers all the time...to which this genius tells me that her husband built one once, and she 'used' it allot
gee thanks...so comforting :uhoh3
and no, she couldn't get it open either :rofl

anyone need/want a tech support job really bad? I'm liable to be busy with these geniuses a while!

Free Syslog and other stuff

| | Comments (1)

For those of us running a Microsoft network... one of the neatest tools to run across is a FREE Syslog server. Yes, I know... *nix has it already built in... So what? So KIWI.

KIWI Syslog Daemon is a FREE Syslog server. Okay. Some windows-admins are scratching their heads. What about the Event Viewer? Isn't everything there? No, it's not all there. Which Event Viewer records the information from your switches and routers? None. That information goes to a syslog server. Oh...you don't have one on Windows... So you need this little proggie.

Also to look at:
If you go to the Microsoft site... you can find information about the Windows 2000 Resource Kit tools. The Resource Kit originally sold for $300.... but, now it's down to only $200.

I have had the luck/fortune to have this provided at a few of the networks I've managed/administered. The books are good. Use them to study. You'll see many of the obtuse questions from the exams in the footnotes of these books. I don't think I know a single person who has ever read the whole kit. But, it's a lofty goal nonetheless... ; )

The tools on the CD are indispensible. Well...some of them I couldn't give two hoots about. Others are a necessity. Here's a list of the tools included (and a short description). For those less fortunate... Here's a list of the FREE tools from the kit.

Just some more things to fill your toolbox! Happy downloading...

Telnet and SSH

| | Comments (1)

You can never have enough tools in your toolbox. Building a software toolbox is as essential to computer geeks as a huge metal toolbox is to a mechanic. No matter what you do, there's some little proggie somewhere that can help you do it easier, better, more efficiently, or just with more style...

Style is a very important part of being a puter geek. It separates the Neos from the Neophytes... ;)

Anyway...if you configure routers and switches, you know what a PITA the command line telnet can be. Oh...and try to copy and paste. What a waste of time and clicks. It makes a hard task even more difficult. So what's a geek to do?

Use PuTTY.

PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator. It is written and maintained primarily by Simon Tatham.

You can download PuTTY from Simon's site or take a trip through Tucows.

With PuTTY, you can telnet. You can SSH. You can configure which port you want to use. You can LOG YOUR SESSION. This comes in verrrrrry handy. Do a "show run" and log it. Then log off the router -- analyze it OFFLINE. Or use the log to capture your access-list. It'll be easier to copy and paste out of the PuTTY log file than try to copy and paste from that Spartan command prompt window.

It's cool. It's easy to learn. And it's got STYLE....

Oh. And you should take a trip to Tucows anyway. It's an awesome download site. No matter what you want to do, you can find some kind of software for it at Tucows. They have a ton of FREEWARE, mucho SHAREWARE, and bunches of demo versions of regular software. Need a file splitter? They have several. An email client? They have a looooong list. Go. You'll see. But, don't blame me if you fall into a time sink.... ;)
