You are doing it wrong; when they say soft food - they mean it's an excuse to eat lots of ice cream - soft serve, sundaes, banana splits etc.

Seriously, glad you got that taken care of.

The GB heron is the only one that I <i>know</i> we see throughout the year; but, at a distance, I might think that a little blue or a green-backed heron was a crow flapping about. BTW: Your chronicles concerning coming/going of the various bird species is quite interesting to me. Add one more that we see in winter: American goldfinch.

Good grief, Gertrude! You and your neighbors are getting soggy/boggy! I'm very glad to hear that your home isn't showing problems. This is the perfect opportunity to show prospective buyers that you are having no problems in your basement.

Is your second sump pump, as is ours, battery powered? Supposedly, our secondary pump would operate for 6-8 hours were the power to fail. Fortunately, we've not had to time it.

<bowing> Thank you! Thank you! Now I'm going to shoot myself in the foot and tell you I saw a BIG GREY HERON (lol) on Tuesday. As usual, I didn't have a bird book with me. He was a beautiful, slender, tall, dark bird, fishing in a lake edged with reeds.

I don't think we have phoebes here, and we rarely get to see the Eastern Bluebirds. We're more likely to see Cooper's Hawks or Red-tailed hawks . We have more than our share of house finches.

Thank you for the info on grosbeaks. I tried looking it up on the fly, but it seems Google is not as precise as you. I promise we will be kind to them!

If that's the only way you can get it, then it's worth buying it that way. It's an advantage that you can stack it up and only open it as you need it. We have a mulch pile that the chipmunks make into a habitat. I have grisly thoughts of spearing one when I use the pitch fork to gather mulch for a project. And, you mulch is nice and dry right now, while mine is totally soaked from the rain that's come through this week!
